THE EHATARE RETIREMENT HOME: Project description

ANOVA GROUP was contracted to renovate eight residential rooms in the EHATARE RETIREMENT HOME in Scarborough, Ontario. In this project, each two rooms were combined together to create one large suite which includes kitchenette, living room, bedroom and a large bathroom, equipped with accessibility features, to accommodate elderly residents.

Our team in the accessibility and Aging in Place department worked closely with management and board members of the organization to assist in implementing the best solutions for the retirement home's residents. Each suite was carefully designed with a fully accessible kitchenette and bathroom to provide residents with a comfortable and safe environment. 

Some of the features that were provided in this project include:  

THE BATHROOM:

• Barrier-Free Showers
• Wheelchair-Accessible vanity with tilted mirror
• Heated floors
• Various Grab Bars
• Comfort Height Toilets

THE KITCHEN:

• Barrier-Free Kitchen
• Wheelchair accessible cabinet
• Pull-Down shelf in upper cabinet
• High contrast cabinet colours
• Under-cabinet lighting system
• Solid Surface, pore-free, counters to meet IPAC requirements for cleaning and disinfection

THE LIVING SPACE:

• Wider doorways
• Air Quality System in each suite (HRV)
• Illuminated light switches for ease of use
• Accentuated door frames
