Universal Design, unlike Accessibility, focuses on the broader picture of the space, with a forward-looking vision. We, at ANOVA, believe that everyone should benefit from universal design, including individuals with disabilities, older adults, families with young children, and those with temporary impairments or injuries.
Universal Design can be applied to all types of housing, including single-detached homes, multi-unit residential buildings and commercial spaces. We strive to abide by the current needs of residents in a retirement home setting or of employees in an office setting, while at the same time anticipating future needs. ANOVA's purpose of integrating universal design is to promote social inclusion and create communities without barriers. It's about designing visually appealing spaces which do not make the accessibility element obvious, while serving people of different abilities, needs and cultural preferences.
EXAMPLES OF UNIVERSAL DESIGN:
While thinking ahead, we will assure that residents and management teams avoid additional expensive renovations in the future in case the need for mobility devices arises. With universal design, the accessibility components are simply set up right from the start.
